Today we choose to make a shorter trip to Sau Louis, after our long haul flight from yesterday.  We were convinced that we earned a lighter flying day.  Today we will take our flamingo express on an Brazilian domestic flight.  Today, the airport of Natal was the scenery of a big military exercise with Mirage 2000 from France, Mirage F5 from chili and other types from the Brazilian air force.  If we still remember correctly, these F5  were used for the protection of  the Turkish airspace in Diyarbakir as a Belgian contribution when Sadam was playing is his backyard with the Kuwaitis during the first Gulf war.  Afterwards Chili bought these aircraft from the Belgian air force during the reformation of the Belgian armed forces by Leo Delcroix.  This just for information in our history lesson.  Anyway, the Brazilian people still seem to love aircraft noise, even when it is from the very loud Mirage F5.  It’s like local music for them .

Due to the quite extensive exercise we were rerouted out to sea again.  The flamingo express was coasting out again at 120kts for a small detour over the coastal water of about 1,5 hours.  Due to the delay of some paperwork, slow transition into the airport we finally landed well after sunset in Sau Louis.  Many thanks for the guys of Lider handling for the very good support at Natal reducing the delay as much as possible.  Nicely done for the first customer.

The weather was not too bad, but the wind was quite sportive.  In Sau Louis we had the same handling agent as in Natal.  Even though the welcoming in Natal was great, the welcoming committee with Caroline was even more enjoyable.  De fueling company was already waiting and the red carpet was rolled out. J  We informed ourselves about the fuel price and since the price was the same corrupt price as in Natal, we kindly denied to fuel the aircraft.  We started looking at all the options we had to fuel the aircraft somewhere else.  Since this flight was a short trip, we still had a lot of fuel in the tanks

Finally off to the hotel.  After the dinner we fell asleep very quickly..

Na onze lange dag van gisteren hebben we voor vandaag een kortere dag gepland, We hebben na onze oversteek wat rust verdiend. Gisteren iets gaan eten met de Handling Agent. Vandaag verder voor een Domestic flight in Brazilië In Natal onze bestemming na de Atlantic crossing was een grote militaire oefening bezig met Mirages 2000 uit Frankrijk wat bakken uit Brazillië en Mirage F5 uit Chili. Als ik mij goed herinner zijn tijdens de 2 de Golfoorlog -die toen ze Sadam uit Koeweit “teruggefloten” hebben (den eerste is Iran-Irak.)- nog ingezet in het Turkse Diarbakir ter bewaking van het Turkse luchtruim als Belgische bijdrage. Nadien zijn deze door Chili overgekocht in van de Belgische Luchtmacht als gevolg van de herstructurering van Leo Delcroix, tot daar de geschiedenisles .
Lawaai maken mag hier blijkbaar nog wel op een luchthaven. Als gevolg van deze oefening werden we uiteraard direct redelijk rondgestuurd zodat we het eerste anderhalf uur (we vliegen maar 120 kts TAS) niet veel van onze oorspronkelijke route gevolgd hebben. Aangezien we ons ’s morgens nogal op het gemak klaargemaakt hebben maar nadien onverwacht weer met vertraging werden geconfronteerd zijn we iets na zonsondergang gepland in Sao Louis. Het weer was redelijk maar er stond wel een redelijk sportief briesje. In Sao Louis hadden we dezelfde firma om onze Handling te doen als in Natal maar ondanks het goede onthaal van de dag ervoor moeten we toegeven dat het onthaal door Carolina nog hartelijker was. De fueling firma stond al klaar en een rood tapijt werd langs het vliegtuig gelegd. Rap effe geïnformeed naar de fuelprijs, en aagezien dit dezelfde maffiaprijs was als gisteren, hebben we die mannen maar wandelen gestuurd. Er werd besloten om goed na te kijken wat onze opties waren van andere vliegvelden want aan deze oplichterspraktijk wensten wij niet meer mee te werken, trouwens door de korte vlucht hadden we nog redelijk wat fuel in de tank. Vervolgens naar het hotel om nog even van de avond te genieten.
